We’re ready to stand up for a better CalArts

We can no longer wait. Staff and faculty cannot endure another academic year without a strong and fair first contract. Workers should not be expected to absorb the consequences of disastrous administrative decisions that reduce our job security, increase our workloads, and jeopardize our futures.

Unfortunately, CalArts’s unlawful changes–increased healthcare premiums and reduced faculty appointment lengths–are hindering our ability to reach a fair agreement that addresses workers’ needs and that protects our community, our work, our students, and the future of CalArts itself. Improved healthcare benefits and job security are cornerstones of our contract campaign, but these unlawful changes reflect erosions to our existing rights and benefits rather than improvements. CU-UAW has been forced to file multiple Unfair Labor Practice charges in response to CalArts's actions. Staff and faculty must be ready to take action if these ULPs remain unresolved in the coming weeks.

I am prepared to vote YES on a ULP strike authorization vote (SAV) and commit to organizing my colleagues towards that end.

I will vote YES on the strike authorization if our Bargaining Team calls for one.
