Right now, thousands of unionized researchers across New York are bargaining new contracts with our employers, including Postdocs here at Rockefeller. In the face of attacks on research funding, international researchers, and healthcare, it is more vital now than ever for us to come together as unionized researchers to fight for contracts that protect international workers, increase job security, and allow us to focus on our work. On May 20th, researchers and our supporters will be rallying around the city as part of a day of action calling on our employers to work with us, not against us, by committing to fair contracts.
Researchers help deliver billions in grant funding and perform the groundbreaking research fundamental to our institutions’ missions. Unionized researchers, including researchers here at Rockefeller have used our collective power to successfully fight to defend and increase research funding, alongside research institutions. Despite that, Rockefeller refuses to provide access to a neutral process with enforceable timelines in cases of harassment, discrimination, and bullying. They are also insisting that we waive our rights to pursue remedies in the courts should we feel our statutory rights are violated. We cannot and will not accept a contract without clear timelines and full access to all possible remedies, as is standard in other postdoc contracts in the city.
A strong contract is a tool we can use to make Rockefeller stronger, and to defend higher education and science. Join us at York Ave and E 66th St. on May 20th at 12:00 as we rally to call on Rockefeller to work with us and not against us by committing to a fair contract.
