Right now, thousands of unionized researchers across New York are bargaining new contracts with our employers, including researchers here at Sinai. In the face of attacks on research funding, international researchers, and healthcare, it is more vital now than ever for us to come together as unionized researchers to fight for contracts that protect international workers, increase job security, and allow us to focus on our work. On May 20th, researchers and our supporters will be rallying around the city as part of a day of action calling on our employers to work with us, not against us, by committing to fair contracts.
Researchers help deliver billions in grant funding and perform the groundbreaking research fundamental to our institutions’ missions. Unionized researchers, including researchers here at Sinai have used our collective power to successfully fight to defend and increase research funding, alongside research institutions. Despite that, from trying to impose a 6-month probationary period for postdocs to requiring them to give 2 months notice before resigning, Sinai wants to severely backtrack on basic rights given to postdocs in their first contract, and is stalling scheduling for senior researchers.
A strong contract is a tool we can use to make Sinai stronger, and to defend higher education and science. Join us on outside of Icahn (Madison Ave and E 99th st) at 12:00 on May 20th as we rally to call on Sinai to work with us and not against us by committing to a fair contract.
