Nevada Postdocs Digital Union Authorization Card
  • COUNT ME IN THE MAJORITY

  • I join with my colleagues to improve our wages, our working conditions and our ability to do the best possible research and teaching. I authorize Academic Workers of Nevada/International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (AWN-UAW), to represent me in collective bargaining. I understand that Postdocs will elect a bargaining team of our colleagues to negotiate a contract with the University and that no Postdocs will pay any dues or fees until contract terms have been democratically approved by Postdocs.

  • WEʼRE JOINING TOGETHER FOR A BETTER UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA

Like thousands of academic workers across the country who have formed unions to improve working conditions nationwide, we are forming a union to bargain collectively with NSHE, and advocate more broadly for our common interests like protecting and increasing funding for research and expanding the rights of immigrants and visa holders.

Many of your colleagues are organizing the Nevada postdocs union, including:

Ada Antypiuk, Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences, UNLV
Adnan Akif, Physiology & Cell Biology, UNR
    Amarnath Singam, Mechanical Engineering, UNLV
Brian Morra, Natural Resources & Environmental Science, UNR
    Hailey Hermann, Pharmacology, UNR
    Jingshu Wei, Life Sciences, UNLV
    John Ojeogwu, STEM Education, DRI
    Kelly Loria, Hydrology, DRI
Leo Tsukada, Physics and Astronomy, UNLV
Piyush Puranik, International Gaming Institute, UNLV
    Rose DeKock, Psychology, UNLV
    Seth Odell, Life Sciences, UNLV
Veeresh Toragall, Chemistry & Biochemistry, UNLV
    Victoria Luizzi, Biology, UNR

  • WHAT MATTERS MOST TO YOU AS A NEVADA POSTDOC?

  • About Signing a Union Authorization Card

We are joining as a union so we can bargain collectively with the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). Collectively, we have more power to negotiate than we have as individuals. Collective bargaining means more rights and more power to shape our working conditions.

When a strong majority of Postdocs sign cards to authorize the formation of our union, we will request that NSHE recognize our union and agree to a fair and enforceable process for collective bargaining.

We are joining over 125,000 higher education workers within UAW in efforts to achieve better working conditions, wages & benefits.

    Without a union:

    • The University unilaterally determines our working conditions and can change them at any time without our consent.

    With a union:

    • We elect a bargaining committee that gathers input from all Nevada Postdocs.
    • Our bargaining committee negotiates on equal footing toward a fairagreement with the university.
    • We decide democratically, through a vote, whether to approve any agreement as our contract.
    • This contract secures our terms and conditions of employment and is binding and enforceable, usually through appeal to a neutral arbitrator.
  • Should be Empty:
